Denise Smith, DVM
Dr. Denise Smith is a general practitioner and owner of Main Street Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Smith, who opened the practice in 1988, grew up in Dallas, Texas, and says there was never a question in her mind about her future career. Becoming a veterinarian was her goal since elementary school!
After receiving her Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1983, Dr. Smith stayed at Texas A&M to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. She is certified to perform ultrasound examinations.
Dr. Smith has been married to her husband Avery more than 25 years. Their eldest daughter, Amy, is studying international business at Baylor University. The Smiths also have three daughters adopted from China. April likes to play piano while Lilly prefers the violin; the youngest, Betty, is still deciding what her hobby will be. The family's four-legged friends are Sara, an American Eskimo, and cats Buttercup, Calvin, Coach and Chanel.
Dr. Smith says she is addicted to the Food Network and enjoys cooking, hiking through the New Mexico forestland and gardening. She hopes to someday work with the Christian Veterinary Association and help animals in third world countries.
Brook Quinn, DVM
Dr. Brook Quinn joined the Main Street Veterinary Hospital staff in 2002. Having an enjoyable career was important to Dr. Quinn. She chose veterinary medicine so that she could combine her love for science with her love of animals "in a very meaningful way."
Raised in Grapevine, Texas, Dr. Quinn received her Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2002 with her veterinary degree. Her professional interests include internal medicine, ultrasounds and preventative medicine.
Dr. Quinn and her husband Mike have three animal companions: Arthur, a Maltese mix; Isis, a Great Pyrenees and Spooky, a one-eyed cat. In her spare time, Dr. Quinn enjoys reading, swimming and playing with her pets.
Susan Bates Brashear, DVM
General practitioner Dr. Susan Bates Brashear began working at Main Street Veterinary Hospital in 2003. She was raised in El Dorado, Arkansas, and received her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Abilene Christian University in 1999. In 2003, Dr. Brashear was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University. Her professional interests include dermatology, ophthalmology, exotic pet medicine and pain management.
Dr. Brashear is the exotics contributor at the Mark Francis Museum of Veterinary History in Austin, Texas. Her studies at Louisiana State had an emphasis on avian, exotic, zoo and aquarium medicine, and she held externships at the Baton Rouge Zoo and the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans. She also participated in a clerkship at Sea World in Orlando, Florida.
Dr. Brashear is married to Clint Brashear, also a veterinarian. They recently welcomed their first child, a girl, into their family. Dr. Brashear counts reading, scrapbooking, traveling, gourmet cooking, photography and scuba diving among her favorite pastimes. She and her husband share their home with Doc, a Shih Tzu who is a certified therapy dog; Belle, a Cockatiel with special needs; and Callaway, a young Maine Coon mix.
Chris M. Carter, DVM, FAVD
Dr. Chris M. Carter began working at Main Street Veterinary Hospital in 2008. His practice is limited to dentistry and oral surgery.
"I cannot remember a time when I did not want to be a veterinarian," Dr. Carter says. His favorite part of his job is being a voice for his patients - especially the ones that are in pain but cannot express it.
A native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dr. Carter graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science in 1995. He then continued his education at Oklahoma State to receive his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Dr. Carter is a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (FAVD). To earn his Fellowship, he completed a rigorous training program and passed the Academy examination. There are only approximately 80 Fellows of the Academy in the United States.
In addition to dentistry and oral surgery, his professional interests include anesthesia and pain management.
Dr. Carter and his wife Keli, CEO and CFO of the Carter family, have one son and two daughters. The family has a total of nine pets, including four cats, four dogs and a rabbit named Mr. Nibbles. Dr. Carter is an accomplished auctioneer and also enjoys mountain biking and the occasional round of golf.
Emily Redding, DVM
Being a veterinarian was one of Dr. Emily Redding's childhood dreams. Growing up in Abilene, Texas, Dr. Redding constantly rescued strays and injured birds and has always wanted to help animals have better lives.
Dr. Redding began working at Main Street Veterinary Hospital in 2009 as a general practitioner and soft tissue surgeon. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Texas Tech University in 2000, and in May 2007, Texas A&M University awarded her a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
A member of the American Animal Hospital Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Redding's professional interests are soft tissue surgery, exotic/wildlife medicine, emergency/critical care and anesthesiology. She and her husband, Gregory, enjoy the company of six pets: a Siberian Husky named Nikita, a Bengal cat named Alexander, an Arizona Mountain Kingsnake named Jezebelle and three domestic shorthaired cats named Khali, Sophia and Roman.
Dr. Redding enjoys camping, hiking and "any outdoor activity." She's also a huge football fan and an avid fantasy football owner.
Lauren E. Robins, DVM
Veterinarian Lauren E. Robins joined the Main Street Veterinary Hospital family in January 2010. She began working with animals in high school, when she spent a summer as a kennel worker at a veterinary clinic. That job led the way to a technician position, and it was in this role that Dr. Robins says a "true love for veterinary medicine was born." She enjoys being in a position where she is able to strengthen the human-animal bond by keeping pets healthy and ensuring a good quality of life.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Robins received a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Villanova University, which is near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2002. In 2006, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota's College of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include anesthesia and pain control, internal medicine, urology and dermatology.
Dr. Robins is married to Seamus, an engineer. Together they have a young daughter, Genevieve, who enjoys singing, dancing and baking with her mom. The family shares their home with three domestic shorthaired cats named Leah, Ziggy and Clifford, and a mixed breed dog named Kunu. Dr. Robins enjoys volleyball, baking, gardening, knitting, scuba diving and fishing. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Heidi Lobprise, DVM, Diplomate AVDC
Dr. Heidi Lobprise is a Veterinary Dentist that has been a member of the Main Street Veterinary Hospital medical staff since April of 2010. Born in Gary, Indiana, she grew up in Orlando, Florida and then Richardson, Texas, where she graduated from Richardson High School.
Dr. Lobprise says that she knew from age seven that she wanted to spend her life as a veterinarian simply because she has always loved animals. She began her journey toward her current career at Texas A&M University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 1981. Concurrent to earning her undergraduate degree, she enrolled in Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979 and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. Her areas of special professional focus include dentistry and senior care. She is also a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC.)
Dr. Lobprise and her significant other, Joe Kautz, a gunsmith, have a Greyhound named Blade and two cats named Ella and Spot. Dr. Lobprise’s daughter Holly, who is in her early twenties, teaches English in Shanghai, China. Dr. Lobprise’s interests include cycling, hiking, and reading.
